From West to East – A Musical Journey Through Europe
Saturday 15th January 2011
The Norfolk and Norwich Novi Sad Association are pleased to announce their forthcoming Paul Cross Memorial concert. The Early Music Studio of Belgrade are performing a selection of  sacred and secular songs to
take us on a musical journey  across Europe The first part of the programme includes mediaeval spiritual chants from England and France to Byzantium, Serbia and Russia. The second part of the programme will be secular songs by de Machault and de Lantins, songs by Henry V111, madrigals from France and Germany, finishing with songs from the Balkans. Some of the quartet have sung with the St George’s Choir from our twin city of Novi Sad which performed in the Norfolk & Norwich Festival in 1999 and 2001 to great acclaim.
The Paul Cross Memorial Concert is held annually in memory of a much-loved former chairman of the association to support an educational project at The Milan Petrović School for children and young people with special needs in Novi Sad.. Twinning visits to Novi Sad each year include a warm welcome at the school, showing how much our fundraising is appreciated and how it is used in valuable projects to enhance the lives of these youngsters.
Following the success of our 50th Anniversary concert in January 2010 which played to a packed house at the Norwich Playhouse, we feel sure that this concert will be equally appealing and will help maintain the strong friendship links already established between Norwich and Novi Sad.
